In a shocking incident that has triggered widespread outrage across Assam, police have arrested three teenagers in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl in the Aloichora area of Hailakandi district. The Assam Teenagers Murder and Sexual Assault Case is being investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted under the Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime).According to police, the incident took place around 1:00 a.m. on August 1, 2026, under the jurisdiction of Katlicherra Police Station. The victim was reportedly alone at home after leaving a family gathering at a relative’s house nearby. Her family returned later that night and found her body inside the house with severe injuries.Police Investigation and ArrestsThe Assam police arrest operation began on Sunday, when five youths were detained for questioning. By Monday, police had formally arrested Apu Malakar (18), Joydip Ree (19), and a 17-year-old juvenile whose identity has not been disclosed because of legal restrictions.Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amitabh Sinha said that one of the accused is 17-and-a-half years old, and the police have requested the court to try him as an adult considering the alleged brutality of the crime.The three accused have been remanded to six days of police custody for further investigation.Charges Under BNS and POCSO ActAdditional Superintendent of Police Samir Darpan Baruah said the accused have been booked under Section 103(1) (murder) and Section 65(1) (rape of a girl under 16) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which deals with aggravated penetrative sexual assault.Police officials said forensic evidence collected from the crime scene and the post-mortem examination indicated that the victim had been sexually assaulted.Related Instagram Video :Assam Police Arrest Three Teenagers in Alleged MurderWhat Police SaidSSP Amitabh Sinha said investigators are examining the relationship between the victim and the accused.“They knew the house. There were communications between the girl and the boys and we are investigating this further. However, we cannot come to any conclusion yet.
