The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has successfully credited the 8.25% annual interest for the financial year 2025–26 in one go into nearly 34 crore member accounts. Following the landmark migration of the EPFO database to its new Centralised IT Enabled Services (CITES) platform, subscribers can easily verify their updated balances and view interest deposits online using the official member e-Passbook portal, the UMANG application, or simple offline SMS and missed call services.8.25% Interest Payout: Key HighlightsThe Union Ministry of Finance recently ratified the 8.25% interest rate for the financial year 2025–26. This marks the third consecutive year that the government has maintained the interest rate at this level.According to Union Labour and Employment Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the EPFO has processed and disbursed over ₹1.44 lakh crore in interest. Thanks to the new CITES system, the interest credit has been auto-processed and verified, allowing the updated figures to reflect on the passbook portal immediately.Method 1: Check EPF Balance via the EPFO Portal (e-Passbook)The most comprehensive way to check your updated balance and download your statement is through the official EPF Member Passbook portal.1.Visit the Official Portal:Step 1.Open your web browser and go directly to the official EPFO Member Passbook Portal (passbook.epfindia.gov.in).2.Log In with Credentials:Step 2.Enter your 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN), your password, and the unique captcha code displayed on the screen.3.Submit Two-Factor OTP:Step 3.Enter the One-Time Password (OTP) sent to your Aadhaar-linked registered mobile number to complete the secure login verification.4.View Passbook Lite:Step 4.Once logged in, click on the "View" menu and select "Passbook Lite". This will display your updated balance, recent monthly contributions, and the newly added "Interest Updated Up to 15/07/2026" entry.Method 2: Check EPF Balance via the UMANG AppFor mobile-first users, the unified UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) app provides a seamless interface.Download the UMANG App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.Open the app, search for "EPFO", and select it.Click on "View Passbook".Enter your UAN. The call will automatically disconnect after two rings, and you will receive an SMS containing your current EPF balance, age, and last-credited contribution.Via SMS Service:Send an SMS from your registered number to 7738299899.Format: EPFOHO UAN (Replace "UAN" with your actual 12-digit Universal Account Number).Language Options: To receive your balance statement in a regional language, add the first three letters of your language to the end of the text. For example, for Hindi, text EPFOHO UAN HIN. Supported languages include English, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Bengali.Important Note on App Display Delays:Because interest is being processed across roughly 34 crore accounts simultaneously, a few regional databases may experience minor syncing lag. Under Paragraph 60 of the EPF Scheme (1952), your interest calculations are locked to monthly running balances—meaning even if the credit shows up slightly late in your app, you will not lose a single rupee of accrual.
