A new Jantar Mantar protest is being planned in Delhi. The Delhi Police Mahasangh, an association of retired Delhi Police officers, has sought permission from Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar to hold a peaceful dharna at Jantar Mantar on July 31, 2026. The protest will run from 11 AM to 5 PM. The CJP had been protesting at Jantar Mantar Delhi demanding exam transparency, paper leak accountability and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Pradhan resigned after a 36-day agitation.Last week the CJP called a massive Sansad Chalo march toward Parliament. The march turned violent with clashes, tear gas and widespread disruption across central Delhi. More than 200 police personnel were injured. Over 65 protesters were also hurt.Delhi Police Mahasangh president and former Assistant Commissioner of Police Ved Bhushan made the purpose of the Delhi news protest very clear:"We are saying that no action should be taken against the students who were peacefully protesting there. But action must be taken against those who were involved in using criminal force and stone pelting on police personnel, damaging vehicles, and must be arrested."What the Retired Officers Are DemandingThe violence against police during the Parliament march has deeply angered former Delhi cops. The association has demanded strict legal action against people they described as "habitual offenders, anti-social elements, gangsters and violent instigators" who allegedly attacked security personnel and damaged public property.Delhi Police has identified over 2,800 people with criminal records allegedly linked to the violence. Police also claimed that anti-social elements had infiltrated the otherwise peaceful student protest to cause chaos.The retired officers have given strong assurances to Delhi Police that the Jantar Mantar protest will be completely peaceful. There will be no march toward Parliament or Central Vista, no temporary structures, no weapons and no disruption to traffic or public movement in the area.Supreme Court Weighs InThe law and order India situation around these protests has also reached the highest court in the land. The Supreme Court made very strong observations while hearing petitions about police action during the July 20 protests. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant said:"There has to be a completely independent probe. Whoever committed excesses, took the law into their hands, should be taken to task.
