Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that bookings for its all-new GLC Electric will open in India in October 2026, ahead of an official launch by the end of the year. The locally assembled luxury SUV features an 800-volt electrical architecture, offering a WLTP-certified driving range of up to 715 km and ultra-fast 330kW DC charging capabilities. Local Assembly Strategy & Rapid Indian ArrivalThe arrival of the GLC Electric marks one of the fastest global-to-India rollouts for Mercedes-Benz. Debuting in India just six months after its European launch, the electric SUV will be assembled locally at the luxury carmaker’s Chakan facility near Pune. By opting for local assembly (CKD) rather than importing the SUV as a completely built unit (CBU), Mercedes-Benz aims to price the model aggressively within the premium electric segment. Industry estimates place the expected price range between ₹75 lakh and ₹90 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it directly against upcoming luxury rivals such as the BMW iX3. Powertrain, Range, and High-Speed Charging ArchitectureInitially offered in the top-spec GLC 400 4MATIC variant, the electric SUV utilizes a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration paired with an 800-volt high-voltage system. Advanced Battery Pack: The vehicle houses a 94 kWh usable Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery featuring silicon-oxide anodes to improve energy density while reducing cobalt dependency. The setup delivers a certified WLTP driving range of 568 km to 715 km depending on terrain and driving mode. Ultra-Fast DC Charging: Powered by its 800V platform, the SUV supports ultra-fast DC charging speeds of up to 330kW. On a compatible high-speed DC charger, the battery can replenish from 10% to 80% capacity in 22 minutes, while a 10-minute splash-and-dash can add up to 305 km of range. Performance Metrics: The dual electric motors churn out 360 kW (489 bhp) and 800 Nm of instant torque, enabling the 2.5-tonne SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds before hitting a top speed of 210 km/h. Interior Cabin Tech: The Massive 39.1-Inch HyperscreenInside, the India-spec GLC Electric adopts cutting-edge digital infotainment hardware. The centerpiece of the cabin is a continuous 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen spanning the entire dashboard, integrating the digital driver display, central touchscreen, and front passenger entertainment screen into a single glass panel. By bringing its highest-selling SUV badge into the pure-electric domain alongside local manufacturing, the German automaker aims to secure a dominant market share in the premium EV market before rival offerings arrive in early 2027. Official bookings will open online and across India dealerships in the first week of October 2026.
