How to Store and Preserve Luxury Gowns

Luxury gowns are expensive and tailored, resulting in only a few pieces in the collection. If you have one in your wardrobe, there’s more reason why you should learn how to store and preserve luxury gowns. Improper cleaning and storing luxury gowns can lead to discoloration, unremovable stains, and fabric distortion.

Here are the essential tips on properly preserving your luxury gown's look and quality.

  1. To the Hamper, No Floors!

You might be tired from the occasion you went to but no matter how tired you are, stacking your luxury gown on the floor is a big no. Floors have moisture inside that can transfer and create mold and mildew on the gown. You do not want your luxury gowns to have molds and mildew, don’t you?

After wearing the gown, immediately throw it in the hamper. But, it would be best if you could take care of it immediately.

  1. Straight to the Laundry Service

You can only store and preserve your luxury gown in good condition if you give it the proper care and attention. Luxury gowns are not the same as casual clothes with special wash label instructions that you can casually wear again, and it is formal wear that you probably might not wear for the next couple of months. Thus, putting it aside is not the option, and bringing it straight to the laundry service is the best thing.

If you put the gown aside, the perfume you wore and body oils will settle on its fabric. It may even result in yellowish stains. Busy or too tired to head over for laundry? Send them to a laundry pickup and delivery service that offers high-quality dry cleaning.

  1. Invest in the Right Quality Storage Materials

Some are complacent in storing their luxury gowns in plastic garment bags. However, it is not advisable as it becomes unbreathable, resulting in fabric discoloration. Invest in breathable garment bags to ensure your luxury gown is well-ventilated, even inside a dark closet.

  1. Adequate Closet Ventilation

It is common for some to store their luxury gowns in locked closets, basements, or attics. These parts of the house are stuffy and not the best places to store your luxury gown. You should place your luxury gown in a closet with adequate ventilation. Do not leave them inside the dry cleaning bag as it traps the gases and may cause discoloration.

  1. Determine How to Store Clothes

Storing clothes is not a one-size-fits-all storage solution. Some clothes are fine to hang, fold, or stack, but luxury gowns are an exception. Do not hang luxury gowns. Hangers tend to distort the piece and create creases on the gown. You have to safeguard the gown to ensure its fibers are not damaged during the long storage period.

Remember to save these tips. The next time you wear your luxury gowns, you know how to care for and store them properly. Who knows, you might need them again, or you want to pass them on to the next generation.
