1. Pick an Era

Every gathering of teens requires food. Party budgets take a hit in this area, but that doesn’t mean you need to do the same old boring pizza.

Kick it up a notch with a taco bar and lots of finger food. Get the small bottles of water and soda. That prevents waste when they forget where they sat their drink down and go for another.

Make it special by setting up a “bar” with throw-away wine/cocktail glasses, bottles of sparkling juice, and other non-alcoholic cocktails.

3. Music Is a Must

Music sets a mood and gets the body moving. Anyone can set up a disc player in a corner, but what’s the fun in that?

No one has a better music selection than a wedding DJ. They can adjust the tunes to whatever the audience likes and know how to motivate attendees.

Kick off the dancing with a father/daughter dance, then open the floor for fun.  Add some line dances with someone to guide the moves and get everyone involved.

4. Take the Stage

Karaoke has been around for decades and remains popular. Watching friends successfully perform or totally bomb on stage unites the group. When budgeting a party this is a way to get several hours of fun and entertainment for a small out-of-pocket expense.

5. Look To the Future

A sweet 16 party celebrates a girl moving into adulthood. Have all attendees look farther into the future by dressing up as senior citizens 60 years down the road.

The costumes can be found on a budget by checking out garage sales, vintage resale shops, and the closets of grandparents. Give an award for the most believable “senior.”

6. Photo Backdrop

When budgeting a party, an inexpensive and fun activity is the photo backdrop. You can create one in any theme. Just make sure you have good lighting and it is roomy enough to fit in groups of teens.

7. Go Hawaiian

If you have a pool, all the better for this tropical party theme. If not, set the mood by purchasing blow-up kiddie pools and filling them with water or sand. Hit the dollar store for colorful inflatables and sand toys to put in them. 

While you’re there pick up an assortment of Leis to hand out as guests arrive.

Other bargains to keep your eye out for are leis, tiki torches, flower clips (for female hair), and grass skirts.
