How to Choose Motorcycle Jackets for Long Journeys?

Motorcycle jackets are one of the most iconic motorbiking gear to ever exist. For someone who isn't a biking enthusiast, images of classic black leather jackets are sure to come to mind. That is the iconic look that has been portrayed by the media for years.

No matter how or what you ride on your long journeys, there’s always a motorcycle jacket that will fit your needs and style. However, since we are targeting jackets for long journeys, some might be better than others. So how exactly do you choose the one that’s your best companion for those long road trips?

We’ll be breaking down all the intricacies of choosing a jacket for your travels. This way you’ll be able to make smarter decisions before buying wholesale adults clothing.

Different Styles

A sports motorcycle jacket can be broken down into 4 major categories. Each jacket in its respective category is tailored to fit a specific riding style. However, some jackets blur the line between specific categories and can be used for more than more purposes. Let's explore each category!

Cruiser

Jackets made from leather have become one of the most classic styles for motorcycle jackets. Even though leather is the go-to choice for cruiser jackets, cotton and other synthetic textiles are also emerging in trend.

Comfort and style are the main driving force behind cruiser jackets. Their fit is generally loose to make room for comfort. In this category of jackets, the armor is little to none. However, as technology is progressing, more options are now coming reinforced with some armor.

These jackets are meant to be used for more casual trips but also fare well in long-distance travel. Their nature is quite versatile and their overall build is strong.

Racing

Racing jackets are constructed with the most highly resistant materials so they can protect the rider in case of a high speed off. Thick cowhide is the material of choice and is often incorporated into the overall chassis of the jacket.

These jackets are fitted with internal and external armor with synthetic stretch panels to aid in riders' mobility. There aren't any pockets on the jacket itself. The jackets themselves are very aerodynamic and fit the body with pre-curved sleeves to reduce fatigue.

This jacket isn’t best for long journeys but if you are testing your new vehicle on a motorway at high speeds, then this is the jacket to go for.

Sports

Sports jackets are a more casual and relaxed version of racing jackets. They are made to accommodate a sports-riding position but their overall fit is much loose.

Street jackets are widely made with textiles, but there are other leather options as well. These jackets can also be worn in every season due to their venting and removable liners. The number of pockets is still minimal but still more than a racing jacket. Armor is also present in an adequate amount.

These jackets will serve you well if you love to go on long tours all year long. Since they are comfortable, seasonally versatile, and reinforced with armor, you can't go wrong with them.

Adventure

Now for the jackets that are specially made for adventuring and touring on long-distance trips. Adventure, or ADV jackets, are built to be extremely versatile and accommodate you in almost every riding situation you'll come across on a trip.

They are made with top-quality textiles that are both waterproof and properly ventilated. They are also lined with armor in most cases if the rider demands it. They are meant to get you through almost every temperature and come with many pockets.

They are cut from below the waist to cover most common ADV bike riding positions such as upright or standing. This jacket is a must-have if you have a dedicated ADV bike to take with you on your long-distance adventures. For other riding options, other jackets will fair well too.

Final Thoughts

Long-distance journeys are great to distract yourself from stress and problems in life, but without proper gear, it can become problematic. Most of the jackets mentioned above will fare you well in your journeys. But it's up to your personal preference which one suits you and your riding style better.
