If you want to clean any kind of upholstery at home, follow these simple methods.
It is not hard to do couch cleaning at home. There are many common household objects that can be used for this purpose. If you have some old clothes, towels or blankets lying around your house, they can be used as an alternative for cloths and rags.
When it comes to the equipment needed for this chore, all you need is a vacuum cleaner with various attachments that serve different purposes. It is advisable to get one with rotating brushes so it will work better on tough stains and deep crevices of upholstery fabrics which are usually found in couches.
Generally speaking, there are two ways of doing professional couch cleaning . One way involves dry shampooing while another uses wet cleaning techniques.
For dry couch cleaning you will need to dust the entire surface of the furniture piece with a microfiber cloth or any other lint-free cloth. Once done, use a vacuum cleaner to suck up dirt and debris loosened by wiping. The kind of attachment to be used depends on the type of fabric—the rotating brush is best for cotton or polyester while flat suction nozzle works well on silk and linens.
If your upholstered sofa is heavily stained, it would be better if you choose wet cleaning method which involves using damp towels, sponges or mop in addition to vacuum cleaner attachments explained above in dry cleaning.
The wet cleaning method can be used when shampooing carpets too especially if there are pet accidents or the kids have spilled their soda and snack on it. Whatever the case may be, couch cleaning doesn't have to be difficult for you to do. Simply follow the steps above and use the equipment available in your house. Before you know it, you'll have a clean sofa again!
