Come on, Marvel and Sony: We know there’s going to be more than one Spider-Man in the next movie, so why the play it so close to the web? Whatever game the studios are playing, the new Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer has arrived, and while neither Tobey Maguire nor Andrew Garfield appear, a ton of multiversal madness does.
As revealed in the previous No Way Home preview, Alfred Molina and Willem Dafoe are back as Doctor Octopus 2004’s Spider-Man 2 and Green Goblin from 2001’s Spider-Man, respectively. We’ve also had hints that Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman (Spider-Man 3), Jamie Foxx’s Electro (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), and Rhys Ifans’ Lizard (The Amazing Spider-Man) would all be bursting through the cross-dimensional rift created by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and all three get more screen time in this latest trailer.
If the MCU Spider-Man (Tom Holland) is truly alone in this film, the ol’ web-head is in for a hell of a fight. That’s because, yes, we’re still counting on a sixth villain (hence, the Sinister Six) being revealed, in addition to second and third Spideys. For now, check out the latest completely star-stuffed Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer below. The first trailer smashed the record for most views in 24 hours previously set by Avengers: Endgame with 355.5 million; will this new one set a new standard?
No Way Home, which figures to be the final Spidey solo film of the MCU, slings into theaters on December 17th, 2021.
SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Trailer Holds Back Its Biggest Secrets
You know people are truly hyped for your movie when you can debut a new trailer with simultaneous viewing events around the world. But few movies have ever teased the possibility of uniting three live-action Peter Parkers before. So that’s exactly what Marvel and Sony did with the newest look at the massively anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home. While only a select few global citizens got the chance to see the latest teaser on the big screen though, it’s available to all of us. And it delivers on enough hype to satiate the whole multiverse.
Even if it didn’t deliver every version of Spider-Man fans expected to see.
The newest No Way Home trailer offers so much. This is a much clearer look at the actual plot than previous promos. As Peter’s interference with Doctor Strange’s spell will pull Spider-Man villains in from other dimensions. That will lead Peter, MJ, and Ned to “Scooby Doo” there way to finding all of them. Not only will all of Earth be in danger, Peter will have to struggle with the possibility he’ll be responsible for sending all of them to their deaths.
And that could be so many deaths. This trailer confirms that Green Goblin, Electro, Lizard, and Sandman will all be joining in on the fun along with the previously seen Doc Ock.
Despite how much this trailer has to offer though, it’s what’s not included that will have people talking just as much. Neither Andrew Garfield nor Tobey Maguire are anywhere to be seen. They’re not even alluded to. As far as this trailer wants you to know, Tom Holland’s Peter is the one and only Spider-Man who can stop all of these sinister villains.
Is that disappointing? For some, sure. But it’s not like anyone who was already hyped for this movie is now going to pass. And sometimes it’s more rewarding to open your biggest, best gifts on Christmas morning.
Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters on December 17.
